3 1/2days diary of “I”
Screen Print, Blocking Foil Font

2010

The work exists as a screen print consisting of the following text: 05 10 2009 am I lost I; 05 10 2009 pm I was worried about I; 06 10 2009 pm I still lost I; 06 10 2009 pm I did not think about I;07 10 2009 pm I get idea of I; 07 10 2009 pm I was excited about I; 08 10 2009 pm I found I; I was 1. The sentences were printed in black ink and the letter ‘1’ embossed in gold. In this practice, I am examining how sentences show a range of interpretations. What actually happened was that I lost the letter ‘I’ when I was bookbinding another piece of work. I was using metal letter setting to emboss a book. Accidently, I lost a letter I so told Dave, the technician, “Sorry Dave, I lost I.” Dave knew what ‘I’ meant but he made a joke saying: “Well… you lost I or you lost you?” There is ‘I’ but not ‘me’. I found the sentence ‘I lost I’ has a wide range of interpretation possibilities. Interestingly, I then found the letter ‘I’, however the letter was actually a ‘1’. I liked the synchronicity of this occurrence and recognize that this occurrence relate to indexical idea well.
